My Calling

In 1996, a profound spiritual experience brought three questions to the center of my life:

Where are you going?

Who are you?

What are you seeking?

Those questions changed the direction of my life.

I entered Bible training and later theological seminary. What began as a personal search gradually became a calling.

From rural churches to city congregations, from China to the United States, from the pulpit to the classroom, from choir rehearsals to discipleship, and from seasons of freedom to seasons of suffering, I have slowly come to understand that a calling is much more than choosing a religious profession.

It is the offering of an entire life to God.

Over the years, that calling has become clearer:

To faithfully proclaim the gospel, shepherd lives with care, equip disciples and leaders, and pass on to the next generation what God has entrusted to me.

For that reason, I have never wanted ministry to be measured only by attendance, programs, or the size of a church building.

I care more deeply about what happens to a person.

Does someone truly come to know Christ?

Does a believer become a disciple?

Does a disciple learn to serve?

Can someone who has been nurtured today become a person who nurtures others tomorrow?

These questions continue to shape my pastoral ministry, preaching, research, and writing.

I want to bring biblical truth into the places where life is actually lived—into our work and money, marriages and families, success and failure, joy and grief, and the questions for which we sometimes have no easy answers.

Because the gospel is not only about where we will go when this life is over.

It transforms the way we live today.
